Concrete Faith

I love GCU. As these next few weeks are coming to an end, eventually I will be walking down a stage grabbing a diploma (WILD). I will miss a lot about this place. The community, the opportunities, and the growth I have experienced. As I am currently sitting in class right now typing this, I am thinking about these moments I will never have again.

BUT one thing I absolutely won't miss... are the potholes on campus.

I LOVE my longboard, her name is Lilo by the way ;), and her and I are two peas in a pod (yes she has a name, and gender). Lilo and I have gone through a lot together like getting me to class on time, showing off our skating skills to the rest of campus, and hitting potholes...

The average skating incident that occurs on campus a day is about 10-15, and that includes all skaters (not just me mom).

Now I realize potholes exist outside of the walls of GCU. Driving over one in downtown Phoenix can be detrimental to a tire. But besides the physical potholes, I think we experience spiritual and emotional potholes that can be just as detrimental.

Maybe it is a move, a loss of job, a loss of house, a loss of a loved one, a breakup, a big change, a stressful present moment, an incident, a fight, etc.. We all experience an unexpected hole in our road to pursuing Jesus and carrying out His plan for our lives. The potholes in our lives are inevitable, but what are you filling them with? What are you using to fix them?

Social media is like sand, it starts off as an innocent tool of staying connected, and keeping our mind occupied from dealing with our potholes then as the grains of sand pile up, it becomes a soft foundation for our tires to continue to get tripped up in.

Alcohol is like mud, you take in one drink as it starts off as "social drinking" then as the cups compile up and you are six glasses in, then your mind becomes muddy, and the tires are unable to get out of the hole you have created in that present moment.

Jesus is like concrete, you move your pain, struggles, and cries to Him and He heals like a perfect sustainer. He fills your holes with concrete, and builds you up through the process of your struggle. He helps your car continue over the holes, and continue towards the path He has helped establish.

I am experiencing emotional potholes. I am scared about the real world, the unknown, and the goodbyes. But what I do realize is the only consistent builder, and source of help I can get for filling these holes is the Lord, and that is the concrete I am attempting to fill me.
