One thing to know about me is I like to dance. Now I do not mean this in the professional way (because my family could tell you that I am not good at it), but I love doing it. A lot of my moves consist of the sprinkler, jumping around, and attempting to act like I am performing in the movie "Saturday night fever". It has sparked a new appreciation for the disco era where I am in love with all things 80s outfits, disco balls, and Donna Summers.
I currently have disco balls surrounding every aspect of my room, and use it as a reminder to pause and dance it out when life gets heavy and tough. It serves as a reminder that life is not all that serious, and imperfection is inevitable in our everyday life.
When looking at disco balls they are surrounded with what I like to think of as small mirrors that when light reflects on it, they display a beautiful and apparent presence of light to fill the space. It reflects whatever is shined onto it.
We are a product of what we allow to shine on us. When life gets hard what do you turn to? What do you allow to shine on you, and in turn allow yourself to reflect? My zest for life comes from the unwavering truth of Lamentations 3:22-23, we are guaranteed fresh mercies and grace every morning. God's love never moves and is persistent in reaching you where you are at. When you allow the light of Jesus to shine on you, you begin to reflect characteristics of a holy and perfect creator. You begin to sense the freedoms that can only come from relinquishing control to God. Life doesn't seem that serious anymore because the pressures of society do not hold the weight to the power of the Kingdom.
I do not know about you, but I want to be a disco ball for the Lord, and fill a room with His love and grace. I want people to join my random dance parties and tune out the noise of this world, and focus on the gifts of today, and the reality of a promised zip-code in heaven.
I refuse to allow this world to steal my joy. Sure there are times when stress or the feeling of being overwhelmed sneaks up, however I immediately attempt to take grabs on what I want to reflect even in the hard times, and try and remind myself of the seriousness of the Kingdom and the lack of seriousness of this world.
What is shining on your disco ball? Turn on your dancing tunes and show the world your moves.
